Final Results for 2019

Congratulations are due to David Wheatley for coming first in the Regatta, and also first overall in his Stratos 978. David's success overall was highly deserved; he was consistent, being the only challenger to enter all events, achieving 3 firsts in the process. His skill and consistency also meant he was able to keep ahead of our handicap system which is designed to steadily nobble fast performers!

Next, special mention must be made of Martin Worth who came second in (on?) his trimaran SPARKS. This boat is not the easiest to beat to windward in light winds and strong tides yet Martin has persisted, sailing in all but one event and achieving 2 firsts. In the long beat from the Sound to Cargreen during the Regatta he didn't give up in spite of tangling with a French nuclear submarine on the way and after 3 and half hours having to struggle against a developing ebb stream.

Andrew Butcher was third overall in AELEA. It was bad luck that Andrew could not take part in the Regatta as, having led on points most of the year, he was relegated into third place at the last moment by our stringent points scheme which was heavily biased towards encouraging entry in the Regatta.

Well done to John and Hilary Davis for bringing ELWINGS RIVAL into 4th place both in the Regatta and overall.

The ladies' team of Jill Trew and Clare Tagg in DEN NJORD came 5th overall despite not being able to enter many events over the year; they will be a force to reckon with in next year's challenge.

This brings our 2019 White Sail Challenge to an end. Modest prizes will be awarded at the AGM. Tony Head would welcome feedback on the challenge and in particular suggestions for next year.
